Vulnerability – Daily Blog
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
James 5:16 ESV
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
I recently watched a video related to trust. It made a lot of sense to me because it broke trust down into different areas. The idea is that building trust is more than doing what you say in a very broad sense. For me, another big piece of trust has always been how you act or what you say about others when they are not present. For example, if you constantly talk badly of others when they are not in the same room, but when the person is present all good things are said. More to come on this…
Back to vulnerability. Turns out vulnerability plays a role in building trust as well. Showing others, communicating your weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities will build trust or is a part of building trust. I believe this because it shows that others that you are human too. I find it also builds trust with yourself when you can communicate to yourself your weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. This is where praying becomes helpful for me – We know that feeling when we first admit to ourselves (or others) we are weak. It’s freeing in a sense. Praying allows you to practice this vulnerability. Praying confesses your sins. From the above passages – “For when I am weak, then I am strong.“
