Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 ESV
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; …
2 Peter 3:8 ESV
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Psalm 90:12 ESV
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Ephesians 5:16 ESV
Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
Time is something that I think is unique to us humans. I do not think there are many other things that think about time or have the ideas around time as we do. Maybe animals know there is day and night, which is a way of defining time…but do animals know or even care that their days are limited? This is what makes us unique. We know time passes, and there is no way of getting it back (memories are left). We also know we only have so much time on earth or we limit our time to do things and move on to the next. This brings up the idea of the future. We cannot predict the future even though we try to plan for it. And we have the present moment where we experience the things we do. What we do at the present time can be influenced by both past time and plans for the future time.
I hear “we need to be present more,” which leads me to this topic. It seems there is a balance.
