Grace – Giving and Receiving – Daily Journal
James 4:6 ESV
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Romans 11:6 ESV
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
Ephesians 2:8 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
1 Corinthians 15:10 ESV
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
Grace is a wonderful thing. Personally, I feel grace is both given and received. We have this “ideal” from the passages above. I make poor choices often – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,”
For me, I would rather give than receive. it’s easy to give grace. Or I should say easier to give grace (this has taken a lot of work and I often have to remind myself of this) than receiving grace. Receiving grace is not easy because it seems like a gift I did not work for. My connection with work is physical or the act of doing something.
I have to work on receiving grace and not feel guilty of receiving. This passage stuck out for me from Romans: “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.” – Have faith!
