Drop Away Rest Timing and Tuning
Rest timing and tuning are two things I overlook after my original setup of a bow. At setup, I am more focused on making sure the arrow is sitting straight and centered. From there I make sure to find my nock point as flat as possible (my own personal preference). The timing of my drop away rest has never been something I looked at very closely. Mainly because I could never really actually see if the rest was out of the way. I just went off the manufactures instructions. I guess this doesn’t always work out, and this time I noticed black streaks on my vanes as I shot more and more. It was not enough to affect accuracy much, but now that I saw it, I had to try and fix it!
What to look for and Why Tune the Drop Away Rest
If you see any markings or wrinkled vanes, it is most likely coming from interference from your rest. Tuning a drop away rest with the anchor knot from sawtooth outdoor products is very easy. It always helps if you can use video to slow down the arrow flight to confirm or simply use some chalk on the arrow vanes to show anywhere the arrow maybe touch the rest!
