Calling Roosted Turkeys – From Real Hens
I have always wondered if calling roosted turkeys was a thing and what sounds to make, if any, do I make in those early mornings. The only way to really understand this is to get out and hear how turkeys react as they wake up and begin to decide where to fly down. I think this also has a lot to do with the time of the year.
Real Hen Turkeys Calling While Roosted
The best way to hear roosted turkeys is to sneak in as close as you can and listen. This is what I did unknowingly while bowhunting late in December. My late bowhunting season filled with more turkeys than deer. AND this was just another opportunity to experience how wild animals communicate in nature!
Turn your speaks up and listen to these sounds. Very quiet clucks and purrs in the early morning and louder as this hen decides the best place to fly down. Enjoy!
