A2 Broadhead Review by Sawtooth Outdoor Products
This is a brand new broadhead by Sawtooth Outdoor Products. I first found SOP when I came across their Peep It and Anchor Knot. Both of these products are changing the way guys are able to set up their bows. So, I was excited to try their brand new A2 Broadheads. PreOrders are shipping out this week! I was able to get my hands on a set of pre-production broadheads and test a few things.
Accuracy – Can a fixed Blade Broadhead fly like field points?
Penetration – True Cut on Contact!
Durability – How tough is it?
A2 Broadhead Specs: https://sawtoothoutdoorproducts.com/product/a2-broadheads/
- 100 or 125 grains
- Spring Steel bladesStainless Steel Ferrell
- 1-1/4″ Cut AreaTough enough to resharpen
- Wedge design to split bone
First things first – Do they fly similar to field points?
The A2 Broadhead design is short and compact and very similar in length compared to a field point. This is a single bevel 2 blade head that is precision machined and well balanced. With the bevels on both the blades and ferrells opposite, the will also be some spin in flight causing a spiral flight and eventual spiral wound channel. Int he video I wanted to test this by first shooting a group of arrows with my field points and then screwing on the A2 broadheads and shooting a group. You can see the groups were pretty consistent at 20,30 and 40 yards. This is a pass in my book!
Penetration is what you need a broadhead to do!
Penetration does play a role in the broadhead you choose.
For me, if the penetration is the same or better than field points in the same target, I know the broadhead is not causing any issues. I saw 1/2″ to 2″ more penetration with the A2 Broadheads. There is no mechanical energy to take away from the penetration and this is a cut on contact head, so I there were no surprises here! This is a pass in my book!
Durability
Any time you can shoot into concrete a retrieve the broadhead and continue to use the head after happening…Enough said! See the video. This is a pass in my book!
